Smart City Smart Grid Project
Smart City Smart Grid Project
Project Description
The Smart City Smart Grid Project is tailored for a suburban local government area in Perth, Western Australia, home to over 100,000 residents. This area is characterized by a vibrant mix of retail and business precincts, complemented by expansive open spaces within a unique natural landscape. Recognized as one of the world’s most sustainable cities, it emphasizes community engagement, efficient planning processes, and an extensive range of services. Arnowa aims to deploy advanced smart grid infrastructure to enhance energy efficiency while facilitating improved monitoring and management of urban resources.
Project Summary
Arnowa’s initiative seeks to establish scalable smart grid infrastructure throughout the city, initially focusing on energy efficiency enhancements. Future objectives include implementing real-time monitoring for water and environmental quality, asset condition tracking, space utilization optimization, and the integration of automation technologies. By leveraging its innovative solutions, Arnowa aspires to set a benchmark for sustainable urban development and improve the overall quality of life for the city’s residents.
Challenges
The project encounters several challenges that must be addressed to ensure its success. A robust monitoring, reporting, and verification system is essential to track performance metrics effectively. Engaging the community is critical, requiring transparent communication and the establishment of strong partnerships among various stakeholders. Additionally, Arnowa must ensure that the smart grid infrastructure is agile and scalable to adapt to future technological advancements and urban growth.
Objective
The primary goal is to deploy a smart grid infrastructure that integrates scalable hardware, connectivity, and advanced analytics. This will enhance energy efficiency across the city and lay the groundwork for future advancements in real-time monitoring, asset management, and automation, aligning with Arnowa’s commitment to sustainability and innovative urban solutions.
Solutions
Arnowa’s approach involves deploying infrastructure across 15 strategically selected sites, each equipped with 420 kW of Distributed Renewable Energy systems. This implementation will feature 210 points of electrical metering and sub-metering, totaling approximately 200 meters that generate an impressive 30 parameters per minute. Notably, 10 of these meters will provide 80 power quality parameters per minute. The solution also includes water metering and various sensors using a LoRa network, creating a comprehensive dataset for effective facility monitoring. Powered by advanced AI technologies, the system will offer real-time capabilities for water monitoring, environmental tracking, asset condition assessment, space optimization, and automation, enabling Arnowa to deliver efficient urban management.
Results
The successful implementation of Arnowa’s smart grid project is expected to lead to significant cost and energy savings while meeting the project’s objectives within specified time and budget constraints. A fully integrated system will emerge, featuring smart monitoring, control, and analytics technology that enhances operational efficiency and bolsters the city’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in urban management.
